This is a valid concern if you’re really bothered with keeping one speed over vast distances and different terrain. You might be concerned with this if you’re riding a large cruiser or adventure tourer, like a Gold Wing (which has cruise, anyway). Yes, cruise is becoming more and more common on high-end, modern motorcycles with ride-by-wire, even including middleweights like the Aprilia RS 660 or the 2021 Yamaha MT-09 SP.

Motorcycle manufacturers are very quick to remind riders that you can’t rely on adaptive cruise control as a life-saving device. You’re the one who twists the throttle, applies the brakes, and steers the bike. It is usually big-displacement touring models set up with this nifty feature from the factory. Entry-level 250ccs and 450cc speedsters have yet to be equipped with cruise control as standard. If you want to speed up or slow down, use the appropriate control. Accelerating with the cruise control system in a car is like using the pedal in terms of acceleration rates and should feel familiar.
Kawasaki Z900 vs Z900RS — Who Wore it Best?
This is really a cool addition to a sports tourer with a forward-leaning position, even if the handlebars aren’t that low. It still has a fun and rev-happy 140hp in-line four that has a raucous intake how. Ducati also gave the Diavel 1260 S (but not the base model) cruise control, as they did to the Diavel V4. From 2021 onward, the BMW R nineT range (the surviving ones, sans the Racer) all have cruise control. Some reviewers do say the fuelling isn’t spot-on, either, but that’s an opinion not shared by everyone. Another street bike from BMW that has cruise control is the 2020 BMW F 900 R, the long-awaited update to the F 800 R.

Indian Motorcycles with Adaptive Cruise Control — coming soon
This is true of the original brands as well as the knock-offs that have permeated the market. For folks often touring or covering long distances, an advanced system that reduces hand fatigue and enhances comfort will be worth the investment. Conversely, city riders might not find much value in a complex setup.
You can still enjoy the open road with a little less hand fatigue. CFMoto, a Chinese motorcycle manufacturer, offers cruise control on its 650GT sports tourer model. This feature enhances the already impressive list of advanced technologies found on this affordable yet high-quality motorcycle. Finally, I find it surprising when premium sport tourers that already have fly-by-wire don’t offer cruise. For example, the Kawasaki Concours GTR1400 — to say nothing of its sportier sibling the ZX-14R, and the Honda ST1300. Since the early 2010s these motorcycles have had traction control and power modes managed via ride-by-wire throttle — but no cruise.
Brands that haven’t yet got Active Cruise Control
It’s hardly the kind of bike on which you’d expect to drone around on the freeway. But the cruise would at least help you take some weight off your wrists on those clip-ons. Among the many improvements to the engine and aerodynamics (winglets!), Kawasaki also added cruise control. This makes it, like the BMW S 1000 RR, another 200+ hp superbike with cruise. The Ninja 1000’s bigger brother, the Versys 1000, got cruise control in 2019. But being an upright touring bike, that’s a less surprising bike on which to have cruise.

See our complete guide to motorcycles with adaptive / active cruise control here. What’s kind of surprising is that some brands haven’t released any motorcycles with adaptive cruise control — even when some are releasing multiple, and when Yamaha has it on a middleweight. The Yamaha Tracer 9 GT+ is the first relatively affordable middleweight motorcycle with adaptive cruise control. The Tracer 9 GT (without +) is “affordable” for its class (of middleweight sport tourers), that is, and certainly cheaper than other motorcycles in this list for the 2023 model year. The GT+ will also definitely punch under the weight of the Multistrada V4S, for example.
Electric Servo Universal Cruise Control Kit
Between conventional and adaptive cruise controls, the former enables one to set a specific speed that remains constant until the mechanism is deactivated. Motorcycles have had cruise control since 2021 (although official announcements about the feature have broken out as early as 2018). The system is currently offered in high-end production models, but there are plans to make it standard in mid-class motorcycles in the near future.
Cruise Control Alternative for all Motorcycles
Check that the road is clear, that weather conditions are good, and that you’re on a highway or a road where you won’t have to stop or change speed often. If conditions are right to use cruise control in your car, turn on the system. Adaptive cruise control (ACC) is the latest type of cruise control that’s becoming widely available in cars. ACC maintains your speed but incorporates sensors to measure the distance to the car ahead. Once you set a distance, the ACC adjusts your speed to ensure you stay at that distance — usually a car length or two.
Models like the Honda Gold Wing and Rebel 1100 come loaded with high-tech systems offering multiple levels of adjustability – adaptive speed controls included. A few bikes provide this feature as an option, but some don’t offer it at all. This is important, because there’s a built-in safety feature that forces the cruise to automatically shut off if the speed drops below 80% of the set speed. After running through the speed sensor, throttle pull and various other tests it was time to make a ride and see how it performs.
To get an accurate reading, the sensor has to be able to pick up the returned signal cleanly. You don’t want dirt or debris making the sensor’s job even harder. For now, it’s not like you’d save money by getting a Ducati part and stuffing it into your BMW or KTM motorcycle. But maybe years in the future, when rebuilding a crashed classic, you might be able to get a salvaged Bosch radar sensor from one bike to work in another. Kawasaki, BMW, and Ducati all use a Bosch system that Bosch generally classes as radar-based assistance systems (“ARAS”).
So, using cruise control is most fuel-efficient on level highways and long uphill and downhill grades. For example, some cars have a combined button to set the initial speed and accelerate. Others have fine-tuning buttons that you can click to increase or decrease your speed by a set amount, often one mph. A Universal Cruise Control Kit is not for the mechanically challenged. If you can't readily understand and answer the following questions about your motorcycle, then you should not be considering buying or installing our Universal Cruise Control Kit.
The ATLAS Throttle Lock is made of hardened stainless steel and will last the life of your motorcycle. These high quality materials allow us to laser cut extremely thin parts while maintaining strength and resilience. Of course, the 2021+ Yamaha MT-09SP and 2022+ Yamaha XSR900 now come with cruise control. While it’s an Australian company, more than 90% of its customers are based in the US, and shipping is quick. Emergency braking with the Atlas Throttle Lock is the same as with bar-end types. You can brake as usual, but there’ll be friction against the throttle.
This bike also has a comfortable seat that can accommodate riders of any height. Overall, it is a timeless classic that seamlessly combines comfort and power. The Honda ST1300 is a semi-custom, full-fairing sport touring motorcycle. It has suspension travel both front and rear, dual 320 mm front discs with four-piston calipers, and a 290 mm rear disc with two-piston calipers. Its 1261 cc has a five-speed gearbox and includes the latest electronic control systems and processes.
